I got to play a level of Slant Six’s SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 and I am extremely impressed. Unfortunately, the Gaming Lounge was so loud I couldn’t hear what they were saying in the cut scenes, but I did figure out basically what was going on. The level setting was a snowy mountain village. My first primary object was to clear out every cabin and locate intel on to where the VIP is located. I found out that the VIP was organizing a drug shipment that was in the village to the north. My next primary object was to clear the next village and to eliminate the VIP. Once I complete the object, the demo was over.
The gameplay to the game is what you would expect in a SOCOM game. They did add a few new features to FTB3. Slant Six added a cover mechanic that works really well. If you are crouched behind cover, tap R to snap on to an enemy and your soldier will pop up and you can take some shots. The other big change is the regeneration health. The more you take damage, your screen will change grayer and grayer, and then you will die. I did find myself taking a lot of damage. Maybe I was playing on an easier difficulty? Issuing orders to your teammates are very easy and intuitive. If you tap O, that is a quick way to tell your teammates to go to that location or if you hold O, a command menu pops up and you can issue your teammates to follow, take cover, go to, open door, and a bunch of others.
Sony didn’t have co op going so I didn’t get a chance to play that. Also, I couldn’t get any information about competitive multiplayer however, I did very much enjoy the time I spent playing SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 and this should be on everyone’s lookout come November 24th.
